I really like this MJB Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon and after having used them for about a month now, I’d have to say I’m really impressed! I received these in the colors (Earth)quake (a dark brown) and Over(night) (a deep blue). What I love most about these eyeliners is how smooth and creamy they are. As I get older, my eyelids aren’t as smooth and as taut as they used to be, so some pencil type eyeliners tend to tug and pull at my lids, end up skipping, and being streaky, thus making it more time consuming than it should be to apply eyeliner. With these Highliners, however, I don’t have that issue! Since they are so pigmented (my boyfriend actually commented on how vivid my eyeliner looked when I was wearing Over(night), and he never notices those kinds of things) and have a gel formula, applying them in a nice clean line is really easy! (But also, be aware that since they are so creamy, they can be a little soft). The built-in sharpener in the bottom of the pencil is also a nice touch!
Another thing I love about them is they are long lasting… and waterproof! I’ve worn both of the colors for about 10 hours straight and tested them on both the upper lid and lower lash line/waterline, and they lasted pretty well! It’s awesome because when you first apply the eyeliner, you have a little bit of time to smudge them for any smoky eye looks, but after a couple of minutes they don’t budge. I even tried rubbing my winged liner a few times with my finger (which probably didn’t do my eyelid any favors haha), and to my surprise it didn’t smudge at all (keep in mind I have normal to dry lids). I also swatched them on my hand, ran it under water and tried to rub the eyeliner swatches off, but again, they didn’t disappear or smudge and had very minimal fading. My eyes can get pretty watery, so after a few hours I did notice some fading on the outer parts of my waterline, but besides that, everything was pretty much intact until I removed my makeup that night (I just used my usual waterproof eye makeup remover, and it removed them pretty well with no issues).
I’m hoping they expand the colors in this collection (which are inspired by Marc Jacob’s boldly bright resort 2017 collection) and eventually add a black eyeliner because it would probably be my holy grail black pencil/gel liner!
